Where IPW Lands at Washington Dulles International Airport

Discover baggage claim transformed to a VIP lounge just for you, adjacent to carousel 10.

Enjoy refreshments including beer and wine from Virginia’s Cultural Region, snacks, and a welcome gift. Settle in for a chair massage and relax until the IPW team escorts you to your hotel shuttle; scheduled to run every 30 minutes.

Or, if you’re traveling into Washington Reagan National Airport, you’ll find volunteers in teal shirts ready to greet you with a welcome gift and information about Washington, DC. Look for the Amtrak train welcome table and gifts at Union Station, too.

Access to the “Oval Office”

In the Walter E. Washington Convention Center

On your way to the IPW exhibit hall, stop by our replica of the Oval Office to have your picture taken at the most famous desk in the world. Tag your photos #MyDCcool and #ipw17 when you share on social media.

You’ll be under the care of a Secret Service agent who has stepped out from Madame Tussauds Washington, DC. Visit Madame Tussauds to see all 45 American presidents.

Press Brunch at the Newseum

This event is for registered press only.

Shuttle buses will depart from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at 8:30 a.m., or the Newseum is an easy walk from the downtown hotels.

The Newseum is one of the world’s most interactive museums dedicated to freedom of speech. The museum will be closed to the public during this event, allowing IPW press delegates total access.

Rare Essence, DC’s famous go-go band will jump start the morning.  The event commences promptly at 9 a.m. with a welcome from industry leaders including Washington, DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser, followed by delicious brunch and cocktails. Be sure to check out the breathtaking views on the terrace overlooking the U.S. Capitol.

Delegates will explore stellar Newseum exhibits, including:

Press sightseeing tours will depart from the Newseum with a send-off from DC’s unique Batala, an all-female Brazilian drumming brigade. Bottled water from the Museum of the Bible (opening November 2017) will keep busy journalists refreshed.

This event is for registered MICE Buyers only.

Shuttle buses will depart from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at 10:00 a.m., or the Knight Conference Center is an easy walk from the downtown hotels.

MICE buyers will experience some of Washington, DC’s unique venues and views available for future meetings and incentives including

Chinese VIP Tour

Sunday, June 4; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This event is for registered Chinese buyer delegates only, with prior RSVP. 

Shuttles will depart the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at 10 a.m. immediately following the U.S. Travel-hosted Chinese buyer orientation.

Hilton joins Washington, DC to provide the IPW Chinese delegation a day of special experiences.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Big Bus Washington, DC, Potomac Riverboat Cruises and U.S. Capitol Visitors Center will all roll out the figurative “red carpet” to welcome these special Chinese guests.

Opening event: Celebrate Under the Stars at the National Air and Space Museum and the National Mall

Sunday, June 4
National Mall & 4th Street, NW

Event: 7 – 10 p.m.
Bug Bus Night Tours: 9:45 – 10:30 p.m.

This event is open to all registered IPW delegates. Shuttle busses will depart from the host hotels from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Do wear comfortable shoes; large bags are not permitted. All guests must prominently display IPW credentials and will pass through security screening, both inside and outside.

The National Mall
There’s nothing like twilight on the National Mall, known as “America’s Front Yard.”

Jam to a sunset concert featuring DC’s finest talent and thrilling entertainment with a view of the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, memorials, and Smithsonian museums.

Block Party on 4th Street
The quintessential American summer party is a block party!

On 4th Street (behind the stage) you’ll find DC’s famous Rocklands Barbeque.

Play yard games from Pinstripes, United Airlines and George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
Just for IPW, you’ll have a private, VIP experience in America’s most popular museum.

The National Air and Space Museum holds the largest collection of historic aircraft and space craft in the world including the Apollo 11 module, the Friendship 7 capsule flown by John Glenn and the Wright brothers’ plane.

7:15 p.m. – To Fly
This documentary film created just for the National Air and Space Museum in 1976 is the quintessential IMAX movie that made the format famous.

Big Bus Night Tours
When the music stops, the night is still young!

At 9:45 p.m. follow the Lufthansa “air traffic control” glow sticks to the Big Bus double-decker open-top sightseeing busses on 3rd Street (just behind the stage). You’ll be whisked through the monuments and memorials on a moonlight ride you’re sure to remember.

Night tours will last approximately 45 minutes and drop guests off at the host hotels. Be sure to board a bus that will bring you back to the hotel where you want to be.

The IPW opening event is co-hosted by Brand USA and Destination DC.

Closing event: A Grand Slam in the Capital Region at Nationals Park

This event is open to all registered IPW delegates. Shuttle busses will depart from the host hotels from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Baseball, America’s Favorite Pastime
The popular Washington Nationals professional baseball team will host you at this state-of-the-art stadium in DC’s burgeoning Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

Big Bus Welcome!
What happens when four American presidents get on a Big Bus open-top tour bus? Snap your #MyDCcool/#ipw17 selfie with this crazy spectacle.

Artists from Virginia and Maryland will have you dancing all night long.

Take a swing in the batting cages or throw a pitch in the bullpen. Enter between Sections 134-135. There is limited access with priority for Buyers and Press delegates.

Stadium Tours
Explore behind the scenes including the luxury suites, press box, bullpen, dugout and more! Tours will depart every 30 minutes from Section 119.

On the Field
Snap your #ipw17 and #MyDCcool selfie from second base! Enter between Sections 111 and 112. You must wear flat shoes. Does your outfit require high heels? Don’t worry, Virginia Beach will give you a free pair of flip flops and a bag for your shoes.

Heads Up, Here Comes the NatPack!
Games, prizes and fun are on the loose in the Park. Watch for your chance to play and win!

See your face in 4,500 square feet of light
The Nats high-definition scoreboard is state-of-the art. Catch the host and camera to share your favorite #MyDCcool IPW moment with all of Nats Park.

History
America’s first settlement was in Virginia; the region is full of rich colonial, civil war and civil rights history. George Washington from Mount Vernon will share a warm welcome. Pose for your own George Washington portrait.

Food and Drink

#ipw17 closes with a bang. Enjoy a fireworks finale at 9:45 p.m. The best seats for the show are in Sections 104-107.
