Stop One

Snap a selfie in front of the Washington Monument

The 1.2-mile swath of land between the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol is one of the most iconic stretches in America. Stand just outside the Smithsonian Castle and you’re in place to make each iconic building your backdrop. Snap your selfie in front of one and then simply turn around to get the other in the background.

 

Stop Two

Take a spin on a vintage carousel

Just outside Smithsonian Castle
Daily, 11a.m.-5p.m.
$3.50 per ticket
All ages are welcome to ride the brightly colored carousel that welcomes visitors to the National Mall in front of the Smithsonian Castle. Grab some popcorn at one of the nearby snack stands and you’ll feel like a kid again.

 

Stop Three

Explore an outdoor garden of modern art

Enter at Constitution Avenue and Seventh Street NW Instagram-worthy photo ops abound at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden with oversized art from modern artists like Clase Oldenburg, Joan Miró and Roy Lichtenstein. If time permits in your schedule, the museum hosts a free Jazz in the Garden series on Friday evenings from 5-8:30 p.m.
